NEW TECHNOLOGIES, NEW WAYS OF WORKING
In companies, there are many written materials. A large part of the graduate's work will be to understand, help and express the needs of users through mock-ups, emails, memos..... With this module, Epitech gives everyone the opportunity to strengthen their writing skills. Far from the dictated schemes - literature - essays, these courses are designed to specialize students in writing professional documents.
The particularities of professional writing
A professional writing is linked to a need to inform about an idea, a project, an implementation, a meeting... It is useful to everyone: the company, teams, customers, partners, investors, and all stakeholders. It takes different forms (memo, email, report, slideshow, white paper...). It refers objectively to the past, it is effective in the present and it should serve as a reference for the future.
THE WRITTEN EXPRESSION SEMINAR
This seminar, which extends over the Bachelor's cycle (3 years), offers methods and know-how to improve the effectiveness of his professional writing. Knowing how to write concise and precise texts, in a controlled tone, well adapted to the interlocutor and the situation, structuring their texts, arguing, are all skills used by students. Flexibility exercises, diagnostics and personalized tutoring are the key to the success of this seminar led by Juliette Gibert (journalist and adult trainer). It includes 4 qualifying modules.
The objectives of the seminar are therefore to teach the future professional to be simple and punchy, to adapt to his interlocutor, to give as much importance to the content as to the form and to work well both but also to control the quality of a text before any transmission. At the end of the seminar, students must have a fluid, simple, readable and direct writing style.
4 MODULES IN 3 YEARS
The difficulty of projects and requirements is increasing throughout the 4 modules. The whole is designed as a journey where the skills acquired during a project are applied and developed during a subsequent project.
1st year: discover the variety of technical writing
2nd year: explain one’s professional experience, but also with hindsight
3rd year: develop the project, argument it to convince
Each project presents a realistic professional situation similar to what students will encounter during their career. The realization of each project is supported by a lecture course and 2 TDs.
VALIDATION OF MODULES
Each project is evaluated by peers during face-to-face sessions, led by the teaching team, on the basis of quality criteria: text structure, drafting quality and presentation quality. Spelling is an important requirement since beyond a certain number of errors, a malus is triggered.
For the module to be validated, the student must have demonstrated the following skills in the written material produced:
- be able to draft a written document that everyone can understand at first reading
- know how to adapt their writing to the interlocutor and the specific type of document
- know how to connect ideas without a logical break
- be able to deliver a written document with correct spelling and well written short sentences
- know how to facilitate the reading path by a clear and airy presentation
